Child safety has been our top priority for 25 years. To that end, I have spent time recently working with Chief Rodney Parks, Washington’s retired Assistant Police Chief and camp father, Chief David Sturm (frequent guest coach) and Detective John Marsh (father of one of our coaches) to review and improve our child safety procedures and practices. We have never had a child safety issue and have been to the emergency room five times for on field scrapes. We also listen and work closely with parents and guardians to get feedback and improve.

You have my word- we will keep improving! So we will be hiring an experienced and decorated, retired Metropolitan Police Officer in civilian clothes with identification on site from 8:00am to 4:00pm at both our AU Park and Capitol Hill locations all summer. They will work closely with our directors, staff, ballplayers and families to ensure child safety at drop off, pick up, on the field, lunch and staff led bathroom breaks.

Both Chief Parks, Chief Sturm and Detective Marsh have been allies of HRBC for many years and take a personal interest to volunteer their time to make sure sure we are doing our best to make our camps as safe as possible. They will be reviewing and approving the officers we hire. We appreciate them. My brothers and I grew up playing in the Metropolitan Police Boys and Girls Club and were coached by Sergeant Kenneth Burkhead, Detective Norberto Torres, Jr, and others for many years. I appreciated their lessons, example and focus on safety, integrity and doing things the right way.
