Dan Thorner is the Senior Director for Home Run Baseball Camp and works closely with Coach Mac. Dan has been with Home Run Baseball Camp for over 20 years. Dan is a full-time teacher at the Belvour School at the National Cathedral. He is one of our most accomplished leaders. Over the last 20 years he has proven to be a dedicated, responsible, punctual, and energetic motivator and coach. Dan is a natural teacher and explains the game and its lessons to all players and is especially patient with our youngest campers.
A native Washingtonian, Dan attended Janney Elementary School. From there he went on to star as a three sport athlete at the Georgetown Day School before earning his B.A. in Psychology with a History Minor from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation Dan spent a year as Co-Director of Beisbol y Libros in the town of Consuelo just outside of San Pedro de Macoris in the Dominican Republic. There he and Coach RJ worked to increase enrollment in the program from 80 to over 500 boys and girls. ByL combines literacy and baseball in a free, after-school program for students ages 5-15.
Dan currently lives in Bethesda with his wife, two sons and daughter. He remains an accomplished athlete and fitness enthusiast and is currently training to run in his second marathon, having finished the 2011 National Marathon in Washingon, DC in 4 hours and 1 minute.
